Design for Interactive Media @ Final Show 2006: University Of Portsmouth

Originally we were asked to create an identity for the university final show, which would be shown all around the building. My entry for this can be seen in Other Work, although my entry wasn't selected it recieved praise. Nearing the end of our course we were then asked to create an identity solely to promote our course and work.

The final show is a chance for potential employers, members of industry and the public to view student's work from the different courses found within the school of Art, Media and Design. I was in charge of a team of fellow course mates to manage the project which required people to buy in materials, organise print runs and actually put the work up. I also helped with the creation of an interface where visitors could view student's work on the computers and on a projection screen.

We based the theme of our show around construction due to the fact our course room was being demolished at the time of the show. We decided to use yellow and black hazard tape as our overall identity and with this the team created an interactive folding leaflet in a similar style, we also constructed four tables painted yellow and black for the computers to be placed upon and the interfaces also featured the yellow and black theme. It was important that we didn't detract from student's work by making our identity overpowering, and through a series of discussions amongst the team and our tutors alterations to ideas and plans were capable. Even though we had ambitious ideas for the show, everything was delivered on time and the show was open to the public without any problems or delays.

The show went very well, with users able to use the interface with ease, view the work on specially constructed wall hangings and many took home the leaflets we created. Our tutors were exceptionally impressed with all our efforts and my levels of managing a wide ranging team under a tight timescale.

From this show nearly every student had a chance to discuss work with someone in the industry and some even had interviews. This was a great chance to learn some professional practice and an experience I will not forget.
