LNER A4 Near Haywards Heath
This type of steam train has one of the most famous designs in the world, as this train; 60019 Bittern, is the sister of the famous world record holder, Mallard. Seen here in December 2009 steaming towards Haywards Heath after coming over the Ouse Valley Viaduct near Balcombe.
The dying light and strong shadows made timing cruicial. I wanted to catch the train in the winter sun, but without the trees blocking it. The train was running late, but I managed to capture it just before the sun went totally behind the trees.
