I looked at the potentials from the new version of the Internet (2.0) and the Semantic Web and how it could affect the way websites work. To demonstrate this I created a site based on Portsmouth and created a lot of content based upon three different user groups, Commuters, Locals and Visitors. The idea being that Commuters would have information suited to them such as train times and wouldn't have to trawl through a site displaying irrelevant information for the other user groups. Visitors get information about places to visit in Portsmouth and Locals receive information on local news and weather. All of this can be customised and the styles changed to allow the user to take control of the website.
The website is a realised working form of my conclusion that in the future we will have more control over websites we visit and thanks to the Semantic Web, surfing through irrelevant information could become a thing of the past. This unit was the largest one we did in the final year and I received a 2:1 for my efforts.
